Composite Bonding

Do you have gaps in your teeth? Are you looking for a quick and easy way to improve your smile?
If so, composite bonding may be the solution for you.

What is Composite Bonding?

Dental bonding is a way to fix teeth that are chipped, cracked, or discolored. It uses a tooth-colored resin material that is bonded to the teeth with a blue light.

Dental bonding is a relatively quick and painless procedure. It is a good option for people who want to repair minor damage to their teeth without having to undergo more invasive procedures, like fillings or crowns. As a result, it can usually be completed in a single appointment.

What is it made out of?

It is made of a mixture (bonding material) of two things:

  • Fillers: These are tiny grains that give the plastic strength and durability. They can be made from different materials, like glass, quartz, and silica.
  • Composite resin color is the tooth-colored plastic used in composite bonding. This is the liquid part of the plastic. It hardens when it is exposed to blue light.

What is dental bonding for?

Composite bonding, which is also called “dental bonding,” is a procedure used in cosmetic dentistry to make a person’s teeth and smile look better. This process is used to fix chipped tooth, fill gaps, or alter a tooth’s form and colour. Overall, composite bonding may not be for everyone, but, it is best suited to address issues such as:

  • Misalignment of teeth
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Improving the shape, size and colour of teeth
  • Improving the colour of dark or stained teeth
  • Repairing chipped or fractured teeth
  • Restoring decayed teeth
  • Treating worn-down teeth

Composite veneers Vs composite bonding: They are both cosmetic dental procedures that can be used to improve the appearance of your teeth. However, there are some key differences between the two procedures.

Composite Bonding Process

1. Consultation

We perform a comprehensive examination and take the time to listen to you.

2. Planning

We take all necessary information required to plan your case (often including photographs, x-rays, and impressions).

3. Trial Smile

For complex cases, we can perform a mock-up of the expected result to give you a visual of the end result.

4. Tooth Bonding

The composite resin is sculpted and bonded onto the teeth to be treated.

5. Polishing

Restorations and the tooth surfaces are shaped and polished to look and feel like natural teeth.

6. Review

A final check-over of the restorations with adjustments if necessary.

Composite Bonding Aftercare

Here are some tips for caring for your teeth after bonding:

  • Brush your teeth regularly. Brush your teeth twice a day with a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. Floss once a day using string floss, not floss picks.
  • Avoid chewing on hard or sticky foods. This could chip or break the bonding material.
  • Avoid biting your fingernails or other objects. This could also chip or break the bonding material.
  • Use a mouthguard if you participate in sports or activities that could cause injury to your teeth.
  • Get regular dental checkups and cleanings. Your dentist can check the bonding material for any signs of wear or damage.

Here are some of the most common problems that can occur with tooth bonding:

  • Chipping or breaking: The bonding material can chip or break if it is subjected to excessive force. It may not be as strong as your natural teeth. This can happen if you chew on hard foods, bite your fingernails, or participate in sports or activities that could cause injury to your teeth.
  • Staining: The bonding material can stain over time (not stain resistant), especially if you are a smoker or coffee drinker.
  • Discoloration: The bonding material can discolor if it is exposed to certain chemicals, such as those found in some mouthwashes.
  • Loosening: The bonding material can become loose if it is not properly bonded to the tooth. This can happen if the tooth is not prepared properly or if the bonding material is not applied correctly.
