Braces for Students

Straight teeth are not only aesthetically pleasing, but they can also lead to a number of health benefits. Properly aligned teeth make it easier to brush and floss, which can help to prevent cavities and gum disease. Additionally, straight teeth can help to improve speech and reduce the risk of sleep apnea.

There are many different types of braces available, so you can choose the one that is best for your individual needs.

How do braces work?

Braces work by applying constant pressure to teeth, which slowly encourages them to move into the correct position. This pressure is applied by the archwire, which is a thin, metal wire that is threaded through brackets that are bonded to the teeth. The archwire is held in place by elastic bands or ties.

The process of moving teeth with braces can take several months to several years, depending on the severity of the misalignment. With proper care and attention, braces can be an effective way to straighten teeth and improve your smile.

Benefits & Side Effects

The benefits of wearing student braces

Here are the benefits of wearing student braces:

  • It addresses the issues of various dental alignments, such as crowded teeth, open bite, crossbite, overbite, underbite, spaced teeth, and crooked teeth.
  • As a result, the individual with braces has a more confident personality. This provides the opportunity to smile with confidence.
  • Teeth that do not fit together properly can make it difficult to chew food properly. Braces can help to correct this problem.
  • At the end of the treatment period, you can look forward to a better smile and appearance.

The temporary inconveniences of student braces

Wearing braces is a temporary inconvenience that can lead to a lifetime of improved oral health and a more confident smile.

Here are the downsides of wearing student braces:

  • Discomfort: Braces can be uncomfortable at first, especially when they are first put on. You may experience some pain, soreness, and sensitivity. This is usually temporary and will go away after a few days.
  • Eating restrictions: There are some foods that you will need to avoid while you have braces. These foods can damage the braces or make it difficult to clean your teeth. Some examples of foods to avoid include hard, sticky, and chewy foods.
  • Difficulty cleaning your teeth: It is important to brush your teeth thoroughly twice a day when you have braces. However, it can be more difficult to brush your teeth with braces. Be sure to use a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. You may also want to use an interdental brush or water flosser to clean between your teeth.

Braces require special tooth care

Teeth Brushing

Dentists recommend brushing your teeth twice a day. However, people with braces should brush their teeth after every meal to remove plaque and food particles that can build up around the braces.

To brush your teeth with braces, use a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. Place the toothbrush at a 45-degree angle and gently brush along the gum line. Be sure to brush the inside, outside, and chewing surfaces of each tooth. Pay extra attention to any hooked braces, as these areas are more likely to collect plaque.

Rinse your mouth thoroughly after brushing. If you are not able to brush after every meal, carry a toothbrush and toothpaste with you so that you can brush as soon as possible.

Choosing Toothbrushes

Any soft-bristled toothbrush will work for people with braces. However, an electric toothbrush with a circular oscillating head may be more effective at removing plaque.

It is important to use fluoride toothpaste when you have braces. Fluoride strengthens the enamel of your teeth and helps to prevent plaque. If you have sensitive teeth or gums, you may want to use a desensitizing toothpaste.

Use mouthwash
Use a fluoride mouthwash for one minute after brushing your teeth at night to help prevent cavities. Mouthwash after meals is unnecessary.

Flossing
Floss daily to remove food particles and plaque from between your teeth and braces. Use gentle pressure when flossing.

Easy with the Right Food

Avoid hard, sticky, and chewy foods that can damage your braces. These foods include caramels, popcorn, nuts, and hard candy.

To protect your braces, cut apples and carrots into bite-sized pieces. These foods can be eaten without damaging your braces.

Be patient

It takes time for braces to work. Don’t get discouraged if you don’t see results immediately.
