Dental Crowning Procedure
First Appointment
- Tooth Preparation: The dentist will gently remove a small amount of enamel from the tooth to make space for the crown.
- Taking Impressions: A soft, putty-like material is placed over the teeth, and you’ll be asked to bite down. This creates a mould, which is then used to make a model of your teeth. The model is sent to a dental lab to craft your custom crown.
- Temporary Crown Placement: A temporary crown, made from soft material, is placed over the tooth to protect it while your permanent crown is being made.
Second Appointment
- Removing the Temporary Crown: Once your permanent crown is ready, the dentist will carefully remove the temporary crown from your tooth.
- Fitting the Permanent Crown: The dentist will place the new crown and secure it with special dental cement. This quick and usually painless procedure takes around 30 minutes and is done in the clinic.
